Did you know that we have 45 frogs species listed as being sited on the Southern Downs
and 15 of them are tree frogs. Of that 15, two are listed as vulnerable.
Frog hotels are designed for tree frogs that can easily climb the pipes. Creating frog hotels
in your backyard is an easy way to create additional habitat. They don’t take up much
space, can be created over a weekend and will encourage more frogs to visit while giving
them a safe space to live in.
The Queensland Wildlife Preservation Society has created a step by step guide. The
Australian Museum’s FrogID helps you identify and record frog calls. Once your hotel is up
and running, you can also record your observations at iNaturalist.
The more records we have the better we can plan for and manage our local environment.
