Ideal placement of bins ready for collection To ensure your wheelie bins are serviced, please:

• Remember it is your responsibility to ensure your wheelie bins are accessible at all times for our drivers (don’t park your car on the road in front of your wheelie bins, or have branches hanging over your wheelie bins);
• Put your bins out the night before collection day, or by 6am on collection day;
• Bins must be placed at least 1m apart on the footpath; and
• Do not overfill bins.

 

Residents can locate their bin collection day by entering their address into Council’s online mapping.  The Collection Calendar (PDF 478.5KB) helps you keep track of your recycling week.

Council offers an infirm collection service for the elderly, disabled or medically immobilised who are unable to put their bins out for collection.  The Cleanaway drivers will collect the bins from residents properties and return the bins once emptied.  The service is only offered if there are no residents at the property capable of putting the bins out for collection.  Residents must provide Council with a confirmation letter or medical certificate from a medical practitioner.

It is the resident's responsibility to ensure bins are left at a suitable site for collection and returned to a safe storage area as soon as practicable following service of the bins.  However, should your bin/s be stolen or damaged, please contact Council to discuss replacement of bid/lid etc.  Damaged bins will be repaired where possible.  If the bin is not serviceable, or is stolen, it will be replaced. 

A charge for the roadside waste and recycling collection service is applied to residents' rates notices.  The charge can be found in Council’s Revenue Statement (PDF 700.2KB).  You will be charged a standard service fee via your rates notice, regardless as to whether your bin is presented for collection each week (waste) / fortnightly (recycling).

 

General waste collected from resident’s red or green lidded bins is taken to the Warwick Waste Management Facility for disposal into the landfill.  You can reduce waste to landfill by recycling as much as possible!

Recycling collected from resident’s yellow lidded bins is taken to a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Brisbane for processing and recycling.  You can minimise contamination in the recycling stream by ensuring your recycling is empty, dry and loose!

Ammunition and explosive devices of any type are prohibited from all Waste and Recycling facilities throughout the Southern Downs.

Explosives are dangerous and can present risks to our workers and the community if they are not disposed or surrendered in a safe and secure manner.

Explosives may become more dangerous as they deteriorate with age.

• old and unsafe explosives stored and often forgotten include
• small arms ammunition
• gelignite
• detonators
• detonating cord
• boosters
• marine flares
• picric acid used in laboratories
• fireworks
• propellant powders

Contact the Explosives Inspectorate on 1300 739 868 (24-hour emergency response hotline) for appropriate disposal and collection.

Under no circumstances should any of these items go in the general waste or recycling bin.

Where to dispose of ammunition

In Queensland you can:

• Voluntarily surrender your firearm and ammunition to a licensed participating firearm dealer or to a police station without fear of prosecution.

• Surrender sporting ammunition (for example, calibres up to 19mm in brass and steel cases, brass and plastic shotgun shells) to a nominated firearms dealer.
