Southern Downs Regional Council is proud to support the Southern Queensland Regional Arts Services Network (RASN) on the creation of a comprehensive artist directory, designed to shine a spotlight on the incredible talent across Southern Queensland.
This initiative is part of the upcoming publication, Under the Southern Sky – Arts and Culture of Southern Queensland, which celebrates the vibrant arts and culture of the region.
Planned for distribution by May 2025, the publication will feature a mix of short and long-form articles highlighting selected artists from each local government area within the Southern Queensland network.
Southern Downs Portfolio Councillor for Inspired Communities, Councillor Morwenna Harslett encouraged artists to get behind the directory.
“The Southern Queensland Directory of Artists offers a low-cost opportunity for creatives to be included in a unique publication specifically tailored to their needs, and I encourage artists across our vibrant region to get behind this project,” Councillor Harslett said.
“This directory will provide essential information about artists, including their location, medium and contact details, thereby increasing visibility and fostering connections for future projects.
"This initiative is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the diverse and talented artists in our region. It reflects our commitment to supporting the arts and fostering a vibrant cultural community."
RASN Regional Manager, Michelle Blair added: "We are looking forward to the opportunity to showcase the amazing communities in Southern Queensland and highlight the hard work being done by these incredible creative people. Under the Southern Sky will reflect the diversity of these communities; from creative projects that address community wellness and have large social impact, to stories about professional artists forging strong careers in the arts while living in regional Queensland."
Artists and creatives can submit their listings via an online form, now open on The Empire's .
“This is a fantastic chance to be part of a high-quality publication that celebrates the spirit and stories of Southern Queensland arts and culture,” Councillor Harslett added.
