Construction has commenced on the Allora Precinct Project, representing a pivotal milestone in the community’s development of a vibrant, multipurpose hub designed to elevate essential services and cultivate a thriving local atmosphere.

Following extensive community engagement and valuable feedback, the redevelopment will bring the Allora Library and other key services together in a dedicated space, improving accessibility and creating a lively, central hub where the entire community can come together.

Southern Downs Councillor Carla Pidgeon said the project is a significant step forward for Allora and will better service the community by providing modern amenities while preserving the town’s rich heritage.

“The new Allora Precinct represents an exciting new era for the town of Allora, bringing together our community in a central and dedicated space that celebrates our history while looking forward to the future,” Councillor Pidgeon said.

“It also shows locals that Council is here to work with the community and that we recognise that spaces like this are essential for people to come together, access services and strengthen connections.

“I'm really looking forward to the precinct taking shape and seeing what it means to Allora’s future.”

Southern Downs Mayor Melissa Hamilton said the project aims to have positive long-term social and economic benefits for the community.

"Breaking ground on the Allora Precinct Project reflects Council’s commitment to supporting our regional towns and creating spaces where people can connect, thrive and celebrate their community,” Mayor Hamilton said.

“This redevelopment represents a major investment in the Allora community and I would like to thank the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland funding for this project on behalf of the local community.”

The project was endorsed by Council following a community survey in late December 2023 that was undertaken to better understand the community sentiment for Council assets in Allora. Feedback overwhelmingly supported renovating the Allora Senior Citizens Centre to incorporate the library and provide a multifunctional facility for community services and activities.

Key components of the redevelopment include relocating the library; upgrading the septic, heating and lighting systems; adding new meeting rooms and creating a new after-hours back entry.

As part of the project, the Allora Senior Citizens Centre will close temporarily. Local residents are encouraged to use the Allora Community Hall during this period. More information on the transition will be shared with the community as work progresses.

Proudly funded by the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland program in association with Southern Downs Regional Council.
