A new external fence at the Warwick Motocross Club will improve safety and security ahead of the 2025 Australian Penrite ProMX Championship in June 2025, strengthening Morgan Park’s position as a premier motorsport destination.
The decision to include $13k in funding for fencing materials was adopted at Council’s Ordinary Meeting on Wednesday 19 February 2025 as part of an ongoing strategy to support local sporting clubs and reinforce the region’s reputation as the Horsepower Capital of Australia.
Southern Downs Councillor Russell Wantling said that ongoing investment in sporting infrastructure would ensure the region continues to attract major national events.
“The Southern Downs is a must-visit location for sporting events, and investing in infrastructure like the Warwick Motocross Club safety fence is essential to securing and growing this reputation,” Councillor Wantling said.
“Big ticket sporting events such as the 2025 Australian Penrite ProMX Championship and the Australian Superbikes series bring high-intensity competition to our region and also inject millions into local businesses, accommodation providers and tourism operators.”
Warwick Motocross Club President Scott Kerridge welcomed Council’s support and highlighted the broader safety benefits to the precinct.
“This funding is a game-changer for our club and the wider Morgan Park precinct,” Mr Kerridge said.
“The new fence will not only improve security and safety for our riders but also help limit wildlife access to other facilities in the area, creating a safer environment for all users.”
Morgan Park hosts a range of high-profile motorsport events, including the Australian Superbike Championship, and its reputation will be further elevated when it welcomes Round 5 of the Australian Penrite ProMX Championship on Sunday 22 June 2025.
The ProMX Championship is expected to attract close to 5,000 attendees, contributing an estimated $2 million to the local economy. The Australian Superbike event the following weekend is forecast to draw around 7,000 visitors, with extended stays injecting approximately $4 million into the region.
Both events will be broadcast to a national and international audience of 700,000, further positioning Warwick as the Horsepower Capital of Australia.
“The exposure from the 2025 Australian Penrite ProMX Championship and the Australian Superbikes is invaluable,” Councillor Wantling added.
“By continually investing in our sporting facilities, we are ensuring Warwick’s reputation as a premier motorsport hub continues to grow.”
This latest investment highlights Council’s ongoing support for sporting infrastructure, ensuring the region remains a top choice for elite competitions and sports tourism.
The new 930m fence will be built along Bill Campbell Way by club members who are licensed fencing contractors, with an additional 270 metres connecting to existing boundaries, and a 1.6-metre high exclusion fence to prevent wildlife from entering the track.
