Clear out and cash in on the Garage Sale Trail this November as more than 400,000 Australians hit the streets to be part of the nation’s biggest second-hand treasure hunt.
Over two massive weekends on 9-10 and 16-17 November, the trail will be coming to the Southern Downs, with the event offering savings for savvy shoppers on everything from the essentials you need to the pre-loved gems you want.
Local residents are invited to host their own garage sale or join a group sale in their neighbourhood, with the option to take part on one day or across both weekends.
Southern Downs Councillor Sarah Deane said selling or shopping at garage sales is a fun and simple way to reduce our carbon footprint.
“The Garage Sale Trail helps neighbours connect, make some money and gives their goods a new lease on life,” Councillor Deane said.
“With free registration, how-to guides and promotional resources, it’s garage sales made easy over two big weekends.
“We expect to have lots of garage sales pop up across the Southern Downs and another 15,000 happening around the nation.”
Based on a rising tide of reuse and recycling, the nation is decluttering and it’s paying dividends for sellers. Data has revealed that those holding a sale on the trail make an average of $457, proving pre-loved is planet and pocket friendly.
With profits like these, it’s no wonder that 3 million items will be up for grabs over the trail weekends, and more sales translates to more bargains for the shrewd shopper.
“There really will be something for everyone; designer fashion, mid-century furniture, cookware, vinyl, kids stuff, tools and more,” Councillor Deane added.
“Shopping aside, the Garage Sale Trail is free for residents thanks to the support of Council.”
