Southern Downs Regional Council is proud to have played a key role in the initial stakeholder group that successfully secured Federal Government funding for the region’s university study hub, now known as CUC Southern Downs.
Set to open its doors for the start of the 2025 university year, the uni hub will deliver a vital service to the Southern Downs community by providing accessible tertiary education opportunities to keep students local.
Council has no representatives on the board of CUC Southern Downs and is not involved in the planning or delivery of the project.
Southern Downs Mayor Melissa Hamilton reaffirmed Council's strong support for the project, emphasising its significance for the community.
“We recognise the uni hub as a vital initiative for providing accessible pathways to higher education and addressing the skills shortage in key sectors such as health and education,” Mayor Hamilton said.
“Council extends its best wishes to the board of CUC Southern Downs as they work toward the hub’s launch and we remain ready to assist the board if and when requested.
“The collaborative vision behind the original funding submission demonstrates the region’s dedication to enhancing local education and fostering economic resilience.”
The uni hub project represents a community-driven initiative, financially supported by the Australian Government’s Regional University Study Hubs Program.
