Southern Downs Visitor Information Centres (VICs) are more than just bricks and mortar. They are the gateways to our region, and the first friendly faces for visitors to the unique Southern Downs tourism experience is our team of dedicated VIC volunteers.

During National Volunteer Week, Southern Downs Regional Council is shining the light on the wonderful job our VIC volunteers do in showcasing the beauty and attractions of the Southern Downs.

Southern Downs Mayor Melissa Hamilton said the VIC volunteers show the best of our community spirit through sharing their local knowledge and generously giving their time to help visitors explore the region.

“Whether you’re a visitor or a local seeking new ideas when hosting family and friends, I encourage you to pop in to one of our VICs for some fantastic suggestions.

“Whether it’s recommending scenic drives, historic landmarks, local events or the best dining spots, our dedicated VIC volunteers are the welcoming face of the region and they ensure that every visitor has an unforgettable experience” Mayor Hamilton said.

“Some our volunteers have celebrated significant milestones having dedicated between five and twenty-seven years to supporting our visitor economy.

Collectively staffed by over 50 volunteers the Southern Downs VICs in Stanthorpe and Warwick form part of a 453-strong network of accredited visitor information centres Australia-wide recognised internationally by the iconic yellow ‘i’ as a trusted resource for travellers to Australia.

“I extend our heartfelt appreciation to all the dedicated VIC volunteers during National Volunteer Week and encourage anyone interested in making a contribution to our community to pop in and find out how to become a VIC volunteer”
