Proud send-of: Council cheers for local Olympic-bound quartet

Four exceptional Southern Downs athletes are set to make their mark on the world stage as they represent Australia at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and Southern Downs Regional Council is cheering-on Ben Armbruster, Charlotte Caslick, Harriet Hudson and Matthew Denny as they prepare for the opportunity of a lifetime.

With the community proudly rallying behind the local sporting stars, Southern Downs Mayor Melissa Hamilton shared her well wishes for the athletes ahead of the games.

"Having four athletes from the Southern Downs compete at the Olympics is a testament to the dedication, talent, and spirit of our community,” Mayor Hamilton said.

“Ben, Charlotte, Harriet, and Matthew represent the resilience and determination that our region is known for, and we are incredibly proud of their achievements.

“They are an inspiration to all of us, and we will be cheering them on every step of the way."

Councillor Russell Wantling, whose portfolio includes sporting groups, also shared his enthusiasm.

"This is an extraordinary milestone for the Southern Downs,” Councillor Wantling said.

“Ben, Charlotte, Harriet, and Matthew have worked tirelessly to reach this level, and their commitment is truly commendable.

“Their journey to the Olympics highlights the importance of supporting local sports programs and nurturing young talent, and we wish them all the best as they prepare to take on the world in Paris."

“Like many of our residents, I am eagerly looking forward to some long, sleepless nights, glued to the television, and cheering them on every step of the way. I won't be missing a minute of the action!"

With Ben Armbruster, Charlotte Caslick, Harriet Hudson, and Matthew Denny representing Australia at the 2024 Paris Olympics, it will be a historic moment for the Southern Downs as it is a record number of athletes from the region competing at the games.
