Southern Downs Regional Council’s 2024/25 Community Grants Program is now open, with $50k in funding available to support local community groups and organisations deliver innovative projects that strengthen our community.

Grants of up to $2,000 are on offer to support eligible initiatives that focus on community development, arts and cultural development, social services, recreational services and infrastructure upgrades.

Councillor Morwenna Harslett said Council’s grants program acknowledged the important role community groups play in contributing to a connected and supportive region, and she encouraged not-for-profit groups to consider their eligibility for financial assistance through the program.

“Community groups often spearhead projects that improve local infrastructure, services and amenities, and build a sense of belonging and social connection through their endeavours,” Councillor Harslett said.

“Council is dedicated to supporting projects that make a real difference, and our Community Grants Program is designed to empower local groups to create and action initiatives that strengthen community bonds.

“Last year, our Community Grants Program supported 28 not-for-profit groups, and I encourage our local groups to review the guidelines and submit an application.”

Councillor Russell Wantling echoed Councillor Harslett’s sentiments, and said the grants program offered a fantastic opportunity for community groups to realise beneficial projects.

“Community groups make important contributions to the liveability of the Southern Downs but often operate on limited budgets,” Councillor Wantling said.

“Council’s Community Grants Program offers a financial boost to help realise projects that provide positive outcomes for the community.”

The 2024/25 Community Grants Program is now open and closes on Friday 30 June 2025, however the program may close sooner if all funding is fully allocated prior.

Applications can be submitted through Smarty Grants, and forms and program guidelines are available online.
