Event Details
When: 9am Sunday 1 September 2024
Where: Victoria Park, Warwick
Who: Mayor Melissa Hamilton, Deputy Mayor Sheryl Windle, Councillors and Sort-It Sally

Deputy Mayor Sheryl Windle welcomed the return of the dog off leash area and looks forward to the planned celebrations.

“This new dog off leash area is a haven for hounds and a fantastic addition to our community’s open spaces, providing a safe and controlled environment for our dogs to run, play and socialise,” Councillor Windle said.

“Whether it’s chasing tennis balls, making new friends or simply enjoying the fresh air, the new off leash dog area at Victoria Park is the perfect pet-friendly park for Warwick’s dogs to safely run free.

“We want to encourage dog owners to take full advantage of this facility, which is designed to support responsible pet ownership. A well-exercised dog is a happy dog, and this space helps ensure our pets are well-behaved members of the community.

“The community’s enthusiasm and engagement for the new dog off leash area has been invaluable in guiding the scope of project, and I’d like to thank those members of our community who participated in the public consultation process and overwhelmingly endorsed Victoria Park as the preferred location.

“There were several factors to consider in deciding on a suitable location for the new dog off leash area, such as proximity to the town centre, distance from residential properties, parking access and integration into existing urban parks with paths, water and toilets.

“Delivering this project is a testament to what Council and the community can achieve when we work collaboratively.

“So, bring your furry friends, put on your best springtime attire and join us for a day of celebration at Warwick’s new dog off leash area. It’s a space where dogs can run free and owners can enjoy a vibrant community atmosphere.”

One of the main highlights at the event will be the Springtime Pooch Parade, where four-legged contestants will strut their stuff and compete for fabulous prizes in the following categories:
• My Dog Has Talent (woofing/howling, fetching, catching or performing tricks)
• Matching Dad and Dog Father’s Day
• Best Dressed Springtime Themed Dog
• Best Dressed Dog overall – Best in Show

“The Springtime Pooch Parade promises to be a lot of fun and I look forward to seeing our region’s dogs all dressed up for the occasion,” Councillor Windle added.

“The grand finale is the Best Dressed Dog overall – Best in Show award, and this prestigious title will go to the dog who steals the show with their impeccable style and charm. Who will be crowned the top dog of the parade? You’ll have to be there to find out!”

The new dog park has been designed with every pooch in mind. It features three separate fenced areas to cater to dogs of all sizes. It also includes amenities such as park benches and dog waste bins and bags.

By providing a space where dogs can exercise, socialise and engage with their environment, off leash areas support the well-being of both pets and their owners, encouraging a more responsible and informed approach to pet ownership.
