Victoria Park in Warwick will soon become a freedom zone for our region’s furry four-legged friends! Works are scheduled to start in early May for a new fenced Dog Off Leash Area (DOLA) where dogs can freely exercise, play and train.
Jointly funded by the Queensland and Australian governments through Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements and Council, the new pooch playground will cater for dogs of all sizes, with three separate fenced areas to be constructed.
Southern Downs Deputy Mayor Sheryl Windle said she looked forward to the community project progressing and delivering a sanctuary where dogs and their owners can have fun and socialise.
“A dog off leash area helps dogs stay healthy and happy, and it also allows members of our community to meet and socialise,” Deputy Mayor Windle said.
“I’d like to thank those members of our community who participated in the community engagement which overwhelmingly endorsed Victoria Park as the preferred location for the new DOLA.
“Several factors were considered in deciding on a suitable location for a new DOLA, such as proximity to the town centre, distance from residential properties, parking access and integration into existing urban parks with paths, water and toilets.
“Whether it’s chasing tennis balls, making new friends or simply enjoying the fresh air, the new DOLA at Victoria Park will provide the perfect pet-friendly space for Warwick’s dogs to safely run free.”
Victoria Park is bordered by Locke, Pratten, Wallace and William Streets, and the site was endorsed at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 13 December 2023.
