Important flood mitigation and road safety works to Homestead Road Bridge are expected to commence in August 2023, weather permitting.
Co-funded by the Australian Government’s Bridge Renewal Program and Southern Downs Regional Council, the $1.065m project will upgrade the culvert to a single lane bridge crossing and improve the approaches to reduce the risk and impact of flooding on the urban road.
Council’s Manager Works James Varughese said he was looking forward to the project getting off the ground following the arrival of materials and availability of contractors.
“The Homestead Road Bridge has been identified as an area of concern for some time and we look forward to improving this vital piece of infrastructure for the local community,” Mr Varughese said.
“The project will improve road safety for residents and industry and also consider environmental impacts by ensuring minimum disturbance to the banks.
“During construction, the safety of road users and crews is paramount, and we encourage the community to follow the directions of on-site officers and signage to keep the site incident-free and the project on schedule.
“Road crews will help ensure that local residents in the area still have access to and from their properties, but there may be minor delays with stop/go arrangements which we will endeavour to keep to a minimum.
“The project is expected to be completed within approximately eight weeks from the commencement date, weather permitting, and Council appreciates the community’s cooperation and patience during construction.”
