When half-yearly water meter readings commence the week beginning Monday 21 August, it will mark a new automated era for Stanthorpe with the first official reading of smart meters for the water rates billing cycle since more than 2700 meters were installed in 2022.
With the advantage of smart meter technology, water consumption data will be digitally downloaded in the Stanthorpe area via radio transmitters instead of manual reads by water meter reader crews.
Council’s Manager Water Graham Sweetlove said installing smart waters was a progressive step forward in the water security space and he looked forward to smart meter technology rolling out across the entire region later this year.
“We have had amazing success with smart meters in Stanthorpe detecting water leaks and saving both water and money for rate payers,” Mr Sweetlove said.
“Smart water meters are scheduled to be rolled out across the remainder of the region in October and the project is expected to be completed towards the end of 2024.
“Until the roll out, Council asks that residents in Warwick and surrounds ensure water meters are safely accessible and clear of garden debris, grass, mulch, building materials, vehicles and other objects.
“Council requests that unrestrained dogs be controlled or restrained behind closed gates during meter reading time as we all love our pets and this will keep everyone safe.”
If gates are locked or an animal prevents Council staff from accessing meters, a notice will be left in the letter box asking residents to call 1300 697 372 to arrange access.
Council thanks the community for its cooperation and compliance in keeping meters clear and accessible.
Anyone who is having difficulties paying their notice is encouraged to contact Council prior to the due date to organise a confidential payment agreement.
