A tonne of free fun activities are on offer across the Southern Downs to celebrate the amazing achievements and contributions of the region’s youth between 11 and 17 April during Queensland Youth Week 2023.
From the Cosplay Parade through Rose City Shopping Centre to board games and Easter-themed crafts at the libraries, Southern Downs Regional Council has collaborated with local community organisations to coordinate a jam-packed program of events suited to a range of ages and interests.
Southern Downs Councillor Cynthia McDonald said the importance of celebrating and acknowledging the region’s youth could not be understated and she encouraged the community to take advantage of the free Youth Week activities on offer these school holidays.
“Supporting and mentoring our region’s youth is a worthy investment in the future of the Southern Downs,” Councillor McDonald said.
“There are many challenges in navigating the world we live in and our young people continually demonstrate that they have resilience by the bucket load.
“Youth Week provides the opportunity for the community to stop, appreciate and acknowledge the positive contributions of our young people.
“I hope that our region’s youth will embrace the opportunities that Youth Week presents and feel proud of the role they play in shaping our region.
“In an exciting first, headspace Warwick is coordinating a cosplay-themed parade and I look forward to seeing all the creative characters come out to play and parade through Rose City Shopping Centre.
“Our regional libraries are also hosting a number of interactive events to keep kids amused, such as story times, board games and Easter crafts, and the Stanthorpe Fitness Centre is offering free group classes for people aged 12 to 25 years.
“Best of all, these Youth Week events are free so it doesn’t have to be expensive to entertain the kids and beat the boredom these school holidays.”
