Following an extensive recruitment process, Southern Downs Regional Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Leon Love to the role of Director Customer and Organisational Services.
With more than 30 years local government experience, Leon is professionally regarded a seasoned local government executive who enhances value for communities and councils.
CEO Dave Burges said Leon’s proven track record of delivering innovative outcomes had stood out among a strong pool of applicants.
“We are delighted to have secured Leon with his comprehensive local government knowledge and experience and are confident he will be a valuable addition to Council as one of our senior leaders,” Mr Burges said.
“Leon is well familiar with rural councils and was most recently Chief Executive Officer of Diamantina Shire Council – a position he held since 2013 overseeing 55 staff, an annual operating budget of $32m and capital expenditure of $7m.
“As Council’s Director Customer and Organisational Services, Leon will play a critical role in the redevelopment of the Warwick Saleyards, assist in shaping the strategic thinking of the organisation and enhance the provision of quality services,” Mr Burges said.
“With Leon’s appointment, we now have a full contingent in the Executive Leadership Team and I look forward to working with Leon and the other Directors to continue to deliver quality services to our communities.”
In his role as Director, Leon will be responsible for delivering organisational improvements and focusing on customer excellence across the organisation. He will oversee the departments of Corporate Services, Community Services, Finance and Sustainability & Strategy.
Leon has previously held senior management positions at Toowoomba Regional Council, Maranoa Regional Council, Bungil Shire Council and Carpentaria Shire Council.
Leon will commence his role with Council on Monday 29 August 2022.
