Safety improvements to upgrade the existing Homestead Road Culvert Crossing are progressing with the preparation of design plans and construction tender documents.
Southern Downs Regional Council was successful in obtaining funding from the Australian Government’s Bridge Renewal Program Round Five to upgrade the Homestead Road culvert to a bridge crossing.
Council has confirmed today that works are expected to commence in late June 2022, subject to pending tender submissions, approvals and material availability.
A Council spokesperson said they had received a number of enquiries from concerned local residents keen to see the project underway.
“Our officers are working hard to finalise details and all going to plan and weather permitting, we expect the Homestead Road Bridge upgrade to be completed and open to traffic by December 2022,” the spokesperson said.
“A number of projects are underway across the region as part of Council’s ongoing commitment to provide safe roads for the community and we are looking forward to starting construction on Homestead Road Bridge as soon as possible.
“We will continue to keep local residents updated and appreciate the community’s cooperation and patience during this process.”
