Storm King Dam is undergoing programmed maintenance to meet the dam safety requirements.
Council takes its responsibility to maintain the regions infrastructure very seriously and dam safety is one of the top priorities.
Programmed works to inspect and re-tensioning of dam anchors in the dam wall will commence on Tuesday 22 June 2021 and it expected to take up to 5 days to complete weather permitting.
However, following the recent rains Storm King Dam is still overflowing and the water flow is limiting access to the dam anchors at the top of the dam wall.
To enable maintenance crews to access the work site Council has commenced releasing approximately 70ML of water through the new scour valve that was recently replaced, allowing a slight drop in the water level and enabling access to the worksite.
With water still flowing into Storm King Dam Council expects that the water level will return to overflow level within weeks of programmed works being completed and will not impact the water supply security.
This vital maintenance work is made possible by reallocation of funds due to project savings from a range of maintenance works on Storm King Dam which is State Government funded.
Residents should not notice any difference in the dam levels or downstream water levels. Water is being released in a controlled manner to replicate the overflow from the spillway. Water quality samples have been collected to ensure water released through the scour valve will not impact the downstream environment.
