Southern Downs Regional Council will meet on Friday 15 May 2020 for a Special Meeting to vote on the first round of proposed recommendations surrounding the region’s COVID-19 Economic Recovery Package.
Southern Downs Mayor Vic Pennisi said that Council is committed to supporting the community through the current pandemic and Friday’s Special Meeting signals the first stage of a multi-faceted approach towards recovery and moving forward.
“At tomorrow’s meeting, Council will consider a raft of initiatives to ease some of the immediate financial pressures facing the community,” Mayor Pennisi said.
“This is only the first wave of a number of recovery initiatives we intend to roll out across the region.
“In doing so, we will consider support offered by other levels of government to ensure support is not duplicated and importantly those who aren't already receiving assistance are given the vital help they need.”
While the meeting will be physically closed to the public due to COVID-19 social restriction guidelines, it will be live-streamed on Council’s Facebook page in the interest of openness and transparency.
Council wishes to remind residents and interested parties that the agenda is available at www.sdrc.qld.gov.au and the minutes will be uploaded once finalised.
The Mayor will also share a video wrap-up of the meeting on Facebook shortly after the meeting closes.
