‘So you want to be a councillor?’ candidate training closing date – 12 noon 3 March 2020

Please find below correspondence for prospective candidates regarding So You Want To Be A Councillor? training:

Under recent changes to legislation, all candidates for the upcoming local government elections must complete So you want to be a councillor? candidate training (both Modules 1 and 2) before nominating with the Electoral Commission Queensland (ECQ). This includes all current councillors and mayors who are nominating for re-election, as well as candidates.

As part of the ECQ’s candidate nomination process, candidates will be required to certify that they have completed the training. The easiest way to do this is by providing the certificate ID number as proof. Candidates and Councillors do not need to print the certificate but should provide the certificate ID number on their nomination form.

The ECQ has advised that nominations will close at 12 noon on Tuesday 3 March 2020.

The Department of Local Government, Racing and Multicultural Affairs will also close the training at 12 noon on 3 March 2020. After this time, it will not be possible to complete the training.

It will not be possible for candidates to nominate first and complete the training afterwards.

If any councillor or candidate has trouble completing the course or has not received their certificate, they can contact the Department by email at lg.learningcentre@dlgrma.qld.gov.au or phone on 3452 7148 during business hours from 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday for assistance.
