Honouring Matt Denny

Have Your Say on honouring Olympian Matt Denny

Southern Downs Regional Council is proud to open public consultation, inviting community feedback on two legacy projects to honour local sporting hero and Olympic discus bronze medal winner, Matt Denny.

Following a hugely successful welcome home street parade in Allora on Friday 4 October, Council’s proposal includes:

  1. Naming the Allora Cricket Ground discus ring after Matt: Council proposes to name the discus ring at the Allora Cricket Ground in honour of Matt, recognising his outstanding achievements and contributions to the sport. This initiative aims to inspire future generations and celebrate Matt’s legacy in his hometown.
  2.  Establishing a walking path in Dalrymple Park: Council proposes to establish a walking path in Dalrymple Park, featuring markers that highlight the distances of the various records achieved by Matt. This path will serve as a tribute to Matt’s remarkable accomplishments and also promote health and fitness within the community.

Join us in creating a lasting tribute to Matt’s remarkable career and dedication. Share your thoughts and help us honour his legacy!

Formal feedback must be emailed to mail@sdrc.qld.gov.au to be considered.

Closes 5pm Friday 1 November 2024.
