Southern Downs Regional Council is seeking to appoint three suitably qualified individuals as independent committee members for its Audit and Risk Management Committee (ARMC).
The Southern Downs region is on the cusp of significant growth with increased regional migration, significant government funding for infrastructure projects and a vibrant tourism and events industry.
Council is seeking candidates for the ARMC to partner on this exciting journey and to deliver sound financial and governance for our growing community.
ARMC candidates will ideally be qualified and experienced in one or more of the following areas: financial expertise, extensive local government experience preferably at an Executive level, audit and risk management and/or legislative compliance knowledge.
The ARMC will meet three times per year plus an additional meeting to review Council’s annual financial statements and budget. Under the Local Government Act 2009 the role of this committee is to:
(a) monitor and review:
(i) the integrity of financial documents
(ii) the internal audit function
(iii) the effectiveness and objectivity of the local government’s internal auditors
(b) make recommendations to the local government about any matters that the audit committee considers need action or improvement.
These are paid positions under a contractor arrangement for a period of two years with two one-year options in favour of Council. Expressions of interest detailing the information outlined in the information pack are required by close of business Monday 16 August 2021.
